They showcased a ton of new information for their upcoming games in 2017 and beyond including 2 brand new IP’s. A Way Out, a prison breakout co-op experience (more details on that below) and teased Anthem, a new game from Bioware with more details to be revealed later on this evening at Microsoft’s conference.
There was new details for FIFA 18 which as well as a host of new features, will include the continuation of Alex Hunter’s story. Madden 18 has also added it’s own story mode Long Shot and we got to see a new trailers for NBA Live 18 and Need for Speed Payback.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 looked incredible and this year will have a single player campaign (EA has listened to the fans!) and we also got to see what new Battlefield 1 content will release throughout the year.
Release date: September 29th 2017
EA SPORTS™ FIFA 18 blurs the line between the virtual and real worlds, bringing to life the players, teams, and atmospheres of The World’s Game.
Not unexpected, EA showed off their latest FIFA game in the franchise and it’s never looked better. This year they’ve added Real Player Motion Technology that will give particular players their signature personality styles with Ronaldo, Sterling & Griezmann mentioned as getting the upgrade. There are other improvements too with new finishing animations, new team styles & immersive atmospheres which will give footy fans plenty to get excited about when it drops later this year.
The Journey Returns
Alex Hunter’s story will continue in FIFA 18 and EA have got some big stars to take part this year. Last seasons Journey was a great introduction to trying something different in a football game and we look forward to seeing what Alex gets up to next.
A Way Out
Release date: Early 2018
An adventure tailored for couch or online co-op from the makers of Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons. Embark on a unique co-op adventure as either Leo or Vincent, two men who don’t know each other but who will have to learn to work together no matter the situation. They need to find a way to break out of prison and continue on together beyond the prison walls.
One of the surprises from this years event was the announcement of the brand new IP, A Way Out. You’ll have to grab a mate and invite them to your house for this one as we were told it’s best experienced in split screen. Now there’s something you don’t hear these days! When co-op games are done right, they’re excellent fun. From the Army of Two games, Portal 2 and even as far back as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, I’ve always loved a good co-op experience and look forward to playing this one early next year.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Release date: November 14th 2017
The prequels, original trilogy, and new era meet in an expanded multiplayer experience and galactic-scale space combat. Play iconic heroes that bring distinct abilities to the battlefront – or join the fight in an emotionally-gripping single player story. Your Star Wars hero’s journey has begun.
It seems that EA have listened to the fans and added a ton of new content to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 including a brand new Star Wars story single player campaign that takes place between Return of the Jedi & The Force Awakens. EA showed off some multiplayer gameplay and quite simply, this game looks incredible. You can expect to play as some new characters too with Finn & Captain Phasma announced as a DLC drop due in December. Get excited Star Wars fans, this one will be fantastic.
Need for Speed Payback
Release date: November 10th 2017
Need for Speed™, one of the world’s bestselling video game franchises, returns with a vengeance in the new action-driving blockbuster Need for Speed Payback.
Need for Speed is back this year with the new game described as an action-driving fantasy. You’ll play through the campaign as three distinct characters united by one common goal, Revenge. Sounds like something straight out of a movie doesn’t it? In fact, watching the trailer I couldn’t help but think of the Fast & Furious movies and this is a good thing. This game looks like crazy fun.
Battlefield 1 (New Content)
Release date: 2017
This year, Battlefield 1 will be getting a ton of new content including new night maps out this summer and the most extensive expansion so far ‘In the name of Tsar’ which will include 6 new maps, new vehicles, new weapons and a new mode called ‘Supply Drop’. In the name of Tsar will release later this year. Battlefield 1 has just got better.
Madden NFL 18
Release date: August 25th 2017
Play the story of an NFL prospect’s road to the Draft – on and off the field – in Madden’s first-ever story mode, Longshot.
For the first time ever, this seasons Madden will have it’s own story mode where you play as Devin Wade as he takes one last shot to hear his name called on NFL draft day. FIFA done a great job last year adding something fresh to the footy experience with The Journey, so Madden fans can look forward to something similar when the game releases this August.
Release date: TBC
Another surprise from the event was the announcement of Anthem, the new game Bioware has been working on. Apart from the teaser trailer below, we don’t know much else but will find out more at the Microsoft’s press event this evening.
